One thing that I was told by other people on this forum is that:

When doing a tutorial, never skip any steps. As soon as you start skipping steps it will build bad habits that are hard to unlearn later.

I don't know what I'm talking about really but I think they are right on this one.

My only criticism is that the render doesn't seem to blend with the lighting as well as it could. then again I'm pretty new to this and my opinion probably isn't as good as others

other than some colour issues
its not that bad
i would recommend that you make your c4ds which are on linear dodge or colour dodge to be consistent with both sides of the focal or else its too distracting because it's not normal to both sides
that bright yellow spick on middle top
play around with selective colour tool

Skipping steps really depends on what you're doing and how it's turning out. If something out of a tutorial doesn't work for your render or your textures or something then obviously don't do it just because it's in the tutorial. For instance don't add a specific gradient map just because they did, do what works for that tag.

Thanks, I had it just in time for a sotw on another forum which voting already started, although I may open this one back up again
as C4d consistency, Idk what you mean lol, the c4ds I used weren't solid (wish they were but couldn't find ones I liked) so they are just duplicated "effect" c4ds I guess :P
The yellow is a bit intense as well from the linear dodge layers on the lighting effects and as for selective coloring, Xan mentioned it in the tut but I've never used it, I've really only used photofilters, currves, and gradient maps for adjustment layers :x I guess I'll have to check em out

her tut teaches some cool things, but you can always take it that one step above and try to make it your own and experiment
im just saying when you do certain effects, make sure that they are equal on both sides of the focal
especially with lighting/bright lights, if its not somewhat consistent with both sides, it might draw away from what might be your focal

I'm seeing what you mean, like you don't have one side filled with solid c4ds and the others filled with effect c4ds on linear/color dodge or screen
or like one side being smudge and the other side being a different kind of smudge or something

Didn't notice, was kind of rushed while doing it because I wanted to finish before the sotw deadline
I really want to find the c4ds she found though ^_^ I always feel like lack of resources is a huge drawback when I'm doing tuts

just compromise
use what you have
finding the exact same stuff and using exact same effects is bad
tuts are supose to teach you HOW to do certain effects, not how to COPY effects
just do more experimenting

That's true, doesn't really teach you as well, rather than developing your own steps like you said compromising to develop or try to develop a style
Still learning even though I've been doing it awhile I take too many breaks and forget a lot lol :P
Maybe I'll give it another go sometime :)
