Just wondering how you learned it and if you have any recommendations on how to learn it.

There is no quick and easy guide to learn something and be good at it. It takes time, a lot of time.

Tutorials, starting from basics, can be found everywhere. You can google them which would be the first step since it is most obvious and simple.
Scroll this forum as well, there are threads about tutorials.

whatever i learned, i learned from the cnc'ers/flamers on GD forum

starting as soon as possible and continuing to look for more information on parts of the program you still don't full understand.
I started back in 9th grade just for fun, its been 10 years and I still learn new things about photoshop/illustrator every now and then. Granted I have never taken any classes on it, but I can't imagine even 4-5 full classes on photoshop/illustrator covering even half of what the program can do.
