I have like an amazing visualization in my head, but i'm not skilled enough to put it on the canvas.
A character looking up with like there arms down and has 2 magical gloves that are glowing from some sort of power his hands are also cupped upwards. as the character is looking up he's praying to the gods, the aura from the gloves are shining down on the ground as light from the gods shine down on him.

I know for a fact I can't do it because it will look bad. The anatomy of the character i'm not good at. I was also thinking of it being in a forest, and i'm not good with environments. Actually I don't know if I can do environments or not because I have actually never sat down and tried. I just put myself down because I don't feel skilled enough.

gather like 15 different reference photos

a few of different poses. - nail that anatomy

some of different armor and gloves you like

a few of color combinations you enjoy

some of the forest and other stuff

sketch with pencil and paper, make like 15-20 different thumbnails MINIMUM of different angles of the lighting/ different positions of the character different poses, but mainly where your lights/darks are going to make it a suitable composition.

then start to sketch bigger medium size sketches of it to really nail down

then start on a larger piece once you figure out composition and values, and your good to go

your making it seem harder than it is, if you put the time/effort/ and research into a piece, its bound to come out successful

Ahh! thank you, see I did not know this. this has actually helped me, but I never really understand what people mean by "thumbnails" in the terms of drawing.

make an inch by an inch little composition, about 20 little squares on a sheet of paper

then lay down where the dark/middle/and highlights go, til it feels comfortable for the eye. Google/youtube some info on composition and values so that you can get some correct information, bout ot go to work so cant give any good resources atm
