There's generally a sticky at the top of each section which will indicate what the subforum is meant for. It also will commonly include other useful tid bits

For example, the one here ( http://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=57514550&f=105 ) describes what GD is used for and what some of the other, similar, sections are.
