Looks great man I'm a huge fan of any good tree or any form of bonsai ish art. I actually just picked up a copy of C4D r12 which I know isn't in the same league as 3ds but I'm going to be using it casually so it seems to suit my needs. I dabbled in Zbrush when it was first released and I can remember the holy shit feeling of it when I got started so I'm thinking of getting a version of it as well.
A few questions though: What's the workflow transition like from Zbrush to x 3d program? I mean does the piece come in fully meshed or is there a lot of post work to be done in the 3d program? Also I know you have a great machine but like I said I'm a casual with standard equipment but what's the file size on something like this when exporting from Zbrush? The details that come out of Zbrush are amazing so I can only imagine the files are immense when transitioned to the next program.
Plan on putting texture and materials on this or will it be left as is? Also are the textures on it now only from Zbrush?
Cinema 4D is pretty cool to mess with and get your head around things. I used it a long time ago before hitting the big 3D packages. As for your questions:
Q: What's the workflow transition like from Zbrush to x 3d program?
A: You can export directly to OBJ out of zBrush at the highest sub-division level. The sub-division levels are set by you so if you have, say 4 for example, you can export from level 1,2,3 or 4. The higher the level, the more geometry you generate. An alternative option is to use a plugin for zBrush known as Decimation Master. What it does is run an algorithm based on the values you set in the given fields. Ultimately, it crunches the mesh down to a reasonable level which you can then export as an OBJ to a 3D program. As for post work, it depends on the method you use. If you use Decimation Master then yes, there is a reasonable amount of clean up work. If you bring the highest level into a program, that means you are most likely going to do a Normal Bake so there is very little clean up work.
Q: What's the file size on something like this when exporting from Zbrush?
A: Around 262 MB in zBrush ZTL format and 476 MB in OBJ format
Q: Plan on putting texture and materials on this or will it be left as is?
A: I am leaving it as is for the render, once I crunch them down to say 5 - 8K Triangle meshes, I will unwrap and texture them.
Q: Also are the textures on it now only from Zbrush?
A: Yes, they are known as zMats which I created using MatCap within zBrush.
