I just want something to mess around on until I have a good idea of what I'm doing. Preferably, there would be an upgraded version that I could pay for in the future.

It would be predominantly used for designing gardens.

I'm more than capable of using Google. But I wanted to know the best free programme, not a list of (random) free programmes.
