i feel like its so much easier to do a sig of a cartoon char as opposed to a rl person because i tried the same techniques/tutorial as this one on a sports tag and it didn't wind up as good

In most cases, it is.
With photos of people you're dealing with a lot of colours and very definitive lighting.
Anime is a few solid colours, and in a lot of cases the lighting isn't even defined.

do you know of any good tutorials dealing w/ sigs of people?

please stop using blur to create depth
