letting her decide where to go on a first date is such a cop-out. i've always been super decisive when i'm on a date because it shows that you've got initiative and that you're actually interested in taking HER out, not the other way around.
don't buy her a gift, don't pay for her meal; if you get coffee or tea or something that's fine, but generally don't spend more than 10$ paying for her shit. you probably don't know each other that well, anyways.
last time i went on a date we went to this outdoor mall type thing to a shop called buffalo exchange, and we picked out stupid clothes for one another and tried to find really weird shirts and hats and such. then we went and got coffee at the restaurant next door, and while we were walking out we saw signs to a "history of punk" gallery behind the mall, and it was free to go inside so we went and checked it out. had a bunch of history on punk and hardcore, as well as some signed original pressings of some super important albums to the genre. after we left we did the whole, "had a great time, i'll call you and we'll do this again, it was fun" walked her to her door (DON'T EVER JUST SIT IN YOUR FUCKING CAR WHEN YOU DROP A LADY OFF, YOU BETA FUCK.) gave her a kiss good night, and that was that.
cost me a grand total of 7$
dating is so simple, i don't know why people stress over it.
e: ask questions about her, find out the kind of shit she's interested in, and try not to talk about yourself too much unless she asks you a question.
normally school and work is conversational easy mode, but try to avoid bringing up shit like that during a date, because it's a fucking buzzkill when girls ask me how finals are going.
