don't worry about concepts until you have practiced the core mechanics of digital painting

start with shapes, then still life, then more still life, more still life, then texture the still life, then start working on lighting and shadows, textures, more still life, more still life, landscapes, more still life, then read up on anatomy/composition, more still life, start doing anatomy sketches, more sketches, sketch until your eyes bleed, then THEN THEN AND ONLY THEN, you can start doing paintings of shit you see in your head.

I just mean concepts as things like perspective, rule of thirds, colour theory, values, etc, cuz we learn that stuff at uni. And it's also in a lot of the "beginner" tutorials, so it's pretty much drilled into my head. I'm now trying to copy other people's works and working from photo references. I fully know I'm not capable of putting anything down from my imagination haha

Use a hard round brush, start with value, change the opacity and flow to your liking, make a black canvas, find a nice SIMPLE BNW picture, and just go to town scribbling chit in without worrying tooo too much about making perfect shapes or smooth shading. Youll get the hang of it. Pick something super simple, the first thing I drew was just a BNW frog from national geographic.

I think its important to start with copying a simple graphic image, drawing from life is 10X harder than from picture for newbs, and color is an entirely different beast.

Just sink an hour or two into this assignment and i promise, youll be started

ALSO I must add, if your not good with a pencil, you wont be good with a tablet, tablets got a learning curve like everything else but actually being good has nothing to do with being comfortable using the media.
