because people are ignorant pretty simple.  this forum has a habit of hating on people that are actually good at art.  The man was offered 82 g's a year to work at ILM.  other offers from activision, midway games, etc.  trust me he is damn good.

Why would he waste his time with small time jsp shit?

Also, I doubt it was because he was good. I seem to recall him being a real ass most of the time.

People don't have problems with other people being good. They have problems with people being good and taking every opportunity to tell everyone about it.

Just because he's "good" doesn't mean the cnc we give is worthless. I remember that part.

he may be good

his spacescapes were not good

no one gives a shit if took him 24 hours to model it in maya using special textures he got from his own photographs of sponges if you can do the same thing in photoshop with a better result in a fraction of the time

Vouch. Same thing with Stormfury. His "vector" that he "3d rendered and then took 18 hours to vector" still looked like a 30 minute job.

no offense but that kind of attitude is why you will always just be a sig maker working out of your parents basement, and people like him will be making htousands of dollars doing what they love. simple as that. If it makes you feel better im sure you have hundreds of people from this site who will vouch your stupid attitude.

Graphic Designers get paid by the hour if I'm not mistaken. Who's going to pay him for 24 hours of work when they can get the same thing for 2 hours of work?

Honestly doesn't make any sense to me, but sure, we'll say you're right, because we all know you'll never be "wrong".

They get paid salary, hourly, or by the job, just like how the rest of the world runs. Depends on your employer.
MOST people get paid by the hour..but that's because they would only make 9-10 an hour or so making flyers for some shitty printing company.

because there is such thing as copyright law, what grade are you in?

Designers of his calibre arent paid by the hour, im talking about ILM (Industrial Light and Magic) its a film studio, studios like ILM (Star wars, Pirates of the carribean, Spiderwick chronicles) , Activision and Midway games (mortal kombat) are paid a little bit differently than your average burger flipper. Its salary, plus a little commission if the film or game is successfull.

And its not about me being right or wrong, im educating you about something that you seem to know little about, to help you understand.

My sister is a Graphic Designer and she gets paid by the hour most of the time. So in my opinion, no one cares if you painstakingly painted every little star and detail if someone else can do the same thing in 1/4th the time.

I'll have to disagree with this.

Stell, whenever you talk about these things, you're always talking about LITERALLY 200-300 or so people in the WORLD who have that job with those companies, if even that.

NOBODY here is going to have a job like that, and if anyone does, it won't be for years and years.

Same goes for graphic design. Chances are you're just going to end up designing cereal boxes, and that's if you're lucky and good. Better chances are you will be designing flyers for mom & pop businesses, shirts for companies that distribute to a local area only, or arranging text in a magazine or newsletter that five people read. Certainly the more school you do the better off you'll be, but nothing is written in stone.
