You can't really go wrong with any chisel. If its to dull sharpen it, to sharp dull it. You will save time and money just buying a compete set though. I use a PSI set. If I remember correctly the set of eight was like 45 or 50 bucks

Oh and as far as lathes go it all just depends on what you want to do with it and how much room you have. If you aren't rocking a very big work space and plan on using it for smaller things I would recommend getting a table top or work bench lathe. But if you are wanting a bigger lathe for larger pieces IE dining room tables or I personally build alot of open shelves so I like to use it on the supports you would need something bigger. This is where if you aren't careful you could drop A LOT of cash. If you are shooting for a large lathe anything under 1 horse power can fuck off. But table top anything over 1 hp and you could be asking for trouble.

Ya, i had kind of guessed this. but I;m still clueless, I would like the option of doing larger things.

can I get a metal lathe and use as a wood lathe? I get the option to buy metal lathes a lot.

Dust doesn't bother me enough to spend 300 bucks, Maybe not my buisness.. but seems like a waste of money.
Unless you have like allergies, or plan to lacquer alot etc?
You can always build your own aswell :3
