well done! your overall shapes look a little wonky though, but it is your first day

im also guessing you just straight eyedropped emus palette

its ok if you still work in b/w i mean this is your first day...
also remember, the shadow is strongest right by where the light hits and the shadow gets less strong the farther away from that highlighted spot ( this is always true )
also color loses saturation in light, which you did good here but also from emus palette

so colors that are shaded or arent hit by light have alot more saturation and such.
you can also define a specific light source so that it makes it easier when your painting. the angle of your shadow on the box is pretty off and dont forget that a shadow sometimes fades away, which it would in this case, sometimes shadows are sharp shapes bu tmost the time the overall shape is lost in the shadow..
shadow on ball is pretty bad as seeing there is some lighter spots on bottom.
