Crosshatching is quite good man, you just need to practice it. Look at the original sketch you copied, (I believe it's from that book 'how to draw portraits' by giovani civardi?). Examine the exact direction of his lines and how he uses his crosshatching to imply the form. This helped me loads, it's a great book.
You also need to push the contrast and go darker in the darks. This would add a lot more to he sketch, you could even try doing it over the one you have there, or keep it in mind next time.
