First one has nice texture, comparing to the second version of self portrait. That's what i was talking about.

45 min study is good, but get different brush or higher variety of brushes, once you started polishing it out (second post) you were between a speedie and a finished painting. So i agree with flora on this one.

Second has lot of potential. Look at it, you are progressing already. You seem to be getting more feel for it. Just don't smudge, i am not sure either you smudged or painted with lower pacity brush. Also, don't use soft brush for anything but global lighting at this point, focus on hard brushes.

Now take a break, look at more paintings from sijun forum and than try copying portrait speedie from there. Than try same style you copied, with auto portrait. Choose something you feel close to. :)

Here i made 10min speedie. Folds were not pre-thought out, nothing was in fact, just bg color. :D I didn't add any hard lights cause i think you get the point. Yuu just go along with what you currently have. And stop with flat face front portraits! Give the head some angle, you will learn more and face will have more depth. And work a bit more on your palette :)

first of all, maybe you should study a proper fucking attitude for 40 minutes, then maybe you could post on this forum like a god damned grown-up.

fuck.

hmm what style you were going for than? :D There is def texture all right, but you changed style 5 times while painting, or at least i get that feel. (neck, shirt, nose, eyes, cap, bg). Make brushes work for you, not against you, use them to achieve a look faster with them, not to slow you down cause you have to paint over 100 times.

there's too much texture, take your time with each piece rather than speed painting
quick paintings without progress is counter productive
remember, even thought out simplicity can result in a good atmosphere
nn too many specialized brushes

the only details you see below are the rocks in the back, but even that's blended out
the rest was merely blocked in by a square brush, and then sharpened
you can always compensate with the sharpen tool to create more natural details that comply with your brush strokes

check out speedpaintings of
grivetart@deviantart or even blizzard
