same with ears both suck

realistic-look is hard to achieve, i find the hardest being nose - getting shading and proportions correctly is very hard if you draw in different angles from mind.

but yes, lighting/shading on lips is pain in ass - don't know about digital painting but it takes hell of lot erasing-shading-fucking work.



once you will get used to ear structure, you will draw them with no problem

you need to learn how to create the face using value instead of lines.

lips are not made by drawing an oval with a line through it. they are made with shadows and highlights.


if i had a scanner i would show you what i mean, i just did this last night for a kid who is doing the same thing you are.
maybe someone else can provide some examples?

Learn to draw with shapes.
Always start with a "doodle" of lines and shaped that would fit a head, then start adding detail.

It says manga, but change the proportions, and add some shadow/detail and I'm sure it will get you a step closer to being able to draw some one's face.
