i usually charge for:

the time it took to make. if it took 10 hrs then charge $20 per hr or something.
the tools you used. if you used specialized tools that they wouldn't otherwise have access to.
the cost of materials (unless they were provided).


i was commissioned for a sculpture last winter and i spent maybe $200 on supplies and got paid $150 straight up. granted it was about 15" x 5" x 7"
