"First graphics job was flash4 (macromedia) developer for telenisus corporation in illinois"

I was required to know a hell of lot more than flash. html, flash, extensive knowledge of dreamweaver3, freehand and fireworks (also macromedia of that era), photoshop, and needs assessment. Yes I had to do things like logos for the partners page. Which meant skills in dealing with the clients special wishes involving their trademarks. A hell of a lot more than just flash. I wasn't going into such detail above because I wasn't posting to inflate my ego. I was simply giving my take on the question in the topic.

What do you contribute? Insults? You know most the psychology community would agree that insults almost always come from someone feeling inferior or threatened. I never threatened you. Sorry feeling shitty enough to rip on people. Bet you're a real charmer in the business world.

Oh lawd. I should have figured you took an hour long Psychology 101 class after that garbage assessment of my photo. You keep popping up in threads here trying to look smart, and every time you just look like an uneducated piece of shit. No matter how eloquently you type you still come off looking like a fool.

Maybe you should try a different site if you want to pretend you're smart and important, people here tend to see right through that bullshit.

Hope you all have a great day!

BTW try this recess name calling at any pro graphics forum, like the NVIDA dev, or GDF and you won't be active long. They actually mod this sort of thing so people can depend on finding professional, on topic posts. Of course I don't expect that here. This place is almost all kids still in highschool and 20s living at home. Notorious for talking big with nothing to back it up.

See, none of us care about any of that. This place is casual and doesn't need self important douchebags. And yeah, I'd rather let you know I think you're a piece of shit than skirt around it with a bunch of passive aggressiveness. Ain't nobody got time for that.

I make under 12k a year doing graphics, video, and sound recordings. And I'm 37.
(could make more but like being my own boss)

Just uploaded this quick tip since nobody on youtube did it right yet:

woah you gotta move to a different area.

Im making 20k from a 3 day a week internship at a magazine for half a year before I go to korea on a study abroad scholarship

is 12k from freelancing? if so you gotta make better ways to make money or charge alot more

if its not you need a new job lol

Truth is it takes many years to be able to make a living doing it. I can barely get by, and I'm 37. First graphics job was flash4 (macromedia) developer for telenisus corporation in illinois, in 1998-2000. There I met my first good mentor. I had to get nothing working my way up to that... and that was just the start.

You need to wear a lot of hats to make a living off it. Not like you can afford to buy an original song from a musician. So best learn your music theory and get good at a DAW (geek for music environment on PC)

You have to be good at 3d modeling, texturing, 2d modeling, raster work like gimp/photoshop, web-dev, html, css, xhtml, flash if you can pay for it, videography, motion tracking, and a shit ton more. Like node layouts and bump maps when you get to the deep end.

It's a 20 year path to become NOT A MASTER but playable in the field.

the learning curve is not that hard but i cant really say anything because I have no interest in 3d modelling or illustration

I've made much more being employed, yes, but I like working for myself.

The learning curve to 3d is quite hard depending on how many hats you want to wear.
modeling, texturing, normal and bump maps, modifiers, python (custom scripts for Blender), basic animation, advanced animation like walk cycles and pose libraries, advanced sequence editing that includes many animations blending and happening at once, like combining your walk cycle to a wave of the hand using a non-linear animation tool, compositing, video and scene sequence editing, music theory and composition (unless you can afford to buy/license music for your videos), rotoscoping, motion tracking, and this is barely hitting the bigger names of topics. The true list of subjects to learn is 3 times this long at least.

Grats on the internship!

I was on vacation and it worked fine for my laptop. Which needed to reserve system resources for Blender. And I never said anything about building a full website in flash. My website has no flash in it. Even in 1998 I didn't do all flash, most the work was html. And obviously I prefer to make less but be my own boss. Saying I could get a job in the field would have been redundant and unneeded. I choose this lifestyle because I like working at home and answering to nobody. Basically you fabricated everything you flamed me for. Except maybe the lack of screen cap thing. Which honestly, that video turned out fine for what it is. And it's the only cycles silhouette tutorial on youtube aside from someone who did it wrong. Have fun ripping on people. You can either join the word or work against it.

Flame? Ripping? What I said wasn't subjective.. Will you please requote me and bold the parts where I flamed you? I'll apologize if you show me where I wronged you. My intention was never to flame, but rather to give you insight into current practices/programs. Adobe CC is only $50/mo for example. I graduated in 08 and based on school and my peers, no one uses flash anymore. A majority of devs are using php, javascript, jquery, and mysql, etc.

Also, in the US the 2014-2015 poverty line is $11,670. You would rather voluntarily live in poverty than make 3x that, plus benefits, because why? Even the national average minimum wage in the US is $14,500.

What insults? What adjectives/opinion were used? I merely relayed information. I don't understand why you took offense.

Also, my contribution to the thread was stated earlier.

I guess you are right. I was mainly defensive from a couple other comments. But not much. I expect to get flamed in this subforum. Sorry I mistook you for someone else.

And I choose to make less because sometimes I want to not work at all. Don't have to explain that to anyone. Sometimes I want to start a totally new project when I haven't finished my last one. Won't have to explain that to anyone either. Like being my own boss and it's worth every bit of the pay cut :)
