Use tuts on every sig imho. Many tuts may be very similar but if you pick up one important skill in them, it's worth it. I learned a ton of lighting methods from a tut that i didn't like the outcome of very much. But i use those lighting methods all the time and i love the way it makes my sigs looks.

the problem is you think you have some idea what you are doing and that you dont need to follow tuts

The problem with your texts are that you slap them on in the end and do zero blending. You need to blend the text same way you blend your render or any effect.

Taken with a lot of consideration. I'll probably end up re-visiting and re-doing tutorials.

Don't do tutorials

Read them. Notice why they're doing what they're doing.

Also look through public psds and try to understand

Practice is the best thing to do also experimenting
Never rush

I actually do this on a daily basis... i just suck at putting theory onto my canvas. As for those psd's... i'm gonna start looking through those more often.

i disagree, the best way to learn things is to copy them by doing them.
the people who look at tutorials like "oh i see what he did there, but i'll just try something on my own" end up making shit

now i'm not saying everyone should follow tutorials... but i'm saying beginners will get the most out of them by recreating not experimenting

you think the best artists in history didn't go to school or learn by copying and instead were handed a paintbrush and just swung it around like a magic wand?
experimenting is best when you know what to do then decide to ask "what happens if i do this instead?"
instead of saying "why don't i fuck around and then say i like it and just do this forever"

its possible to enjoy making your work if thats all you want, but don't expect to meet well built standards of craftmanship

Will definitely take both your advice and end up doing tutorials while retaining and analyzing at the same time. Also, i feel like looking through psd's will also give me inspiration to improve. I also don't mind all your guys' posts as it helps anyone else trying to progress by learning from my mistakes too :D

Slow and boring day, so i figured i might as well spend some time on another tag. I couldn't really get it to look like i pictured it, but it was pretty close.
