true, I'm sure I could get this down to 15 hours if I were to make it a few times.  but for me its all new, I really am just learning as I go.

I mean, this was the first time Ive ever used chisels.  and it got easier every time.

I really like to make art, I hate furniture that is just furniture.  It bothers me.

I completely understand that. were different lines of carpentry. Sell it for what you thinks its worth. And if it doesn't go, lower it until it does I suppose.

for cutting out big holes like that, you don't need a chisel

Drill a large hole through the wood, then get a hack saw..pop the blade off one end and thread the blade through the wood, attach the blade back, and just saw it out.
gives you more even lines, and takes alot less time.

gotta admit, those clocks are awesome looking.

Just had an idea, not sure if it would sell. BUT I WOULD BUY IT!

OK, build coffee table in a tasteful way. I like the one Im making now, so maybe like that.

instead of a nice wood top, get a simple wood and then have a steel top cut for it. half inch with holes for bolts.

Have steel and carriage bolts power coated in tasteful color, color can be up to order ect. ect.

Bring steel plate to range, and shoot it up. (a few times)

Clear coat the steel in matte finish sealing the dents.

attach to wood frame with carriage bolts.

line drawers with gun, grenades, knives ect ect, and spray light coat of white wash paint in drawers to generate dust look. (remove weapons)

Sell as james bonds coffee table.

the table that if you were to get in a fire fight in your living room, would save your life.

most ak rounds are 7.62. They arent very strong. but they are made for piercing, with full metal jackets usually. I'm not sure to be honest.
I imagine if your close enough to pick where your shooting them, it would probably pierce any metal you use. ( I say this assuming you want to be able to move the table with no more than 2 people)
if you just want dents, stand about 15 yards back and hit it with some buckshot. 1/5th inch should stop it.
My friend has a 06 dodge ram, that was hit with 3in buckshot rounds on the door and it did not crease, it only left little dents.

turn them upside down with the primer facing up, then just line them across the edge of the table top :P I think that would look pretty neat.
maybe cut out semi-circles on the edges to hold them, idk. Would be a killer man-cave table.

I was thinking 1/4 to 1/3 inch steel, but I guess a 9 mm would dent it nicely?

I also want the nice paint chip around the dents.

it would definitely leave a dent. but it would probably be alot bigger dent than what your expecting. You could probably put supports behind it to keep it from caving in.
But shooting a thick metal sheet with a lead round just isnt a good idea. A large round like a 9mm would explode. and put dents on everything around it as well.
that and a quarter inch steel sheet that large would be incredibly heavy.
Still recommend buckshot.
