Why in the world do so many people think mortified means scared?
Also I wish toddler were here to be sad with me
I think it's because many people associate intense social humiliation with "horror" and then interchange horrified with scared without realizing they're diluting the meaning of the original phrase.'
Edit..I worded that terribly.
Horror and intense social humiliation are frequently interchangeable since horror is almost always a symptom of mortification
Ex. It mortified me to have to admit that I was a virgin
It horrified me to admit that I was a virgin.
