Reading is all well and good, but its always good to hear someone elses point of view. People have a way of making you look at things differently, especially if theyve experienced it. Anyone can write a page up full of facts, doesnt mean theyve experienced firsthand what theyre writing about.
And I read quite a bit, fyi.
I was not calling anyone dumb if you got that feeling :C
I agree, but studying the topic and the matter will help improve the debate itself and expand the experience and what you learn in a debate, exactly from the reason you stated ( cause we perceive world in different ways). More you know, deeper you can go. But again that's just my opinion.
When it comes to religion, politics or race debates i tend to back off. The debates have ended too many times with anger and frustration, person i spoke to trying in every way to force me their opinion although i already understood what they think and mean, yet I thought differently. Than comes the insulting, etc. imo it's just not worth the effort or my nerves (i am polite, and as long as there is at least some sense in whole conversation I will listen patiently). I tend to dislike these topics, since people get heavy and have problems with self control. Best debate regarding personal beliefs/religion was with a dude believing strictly in facts, he considers himself a meat robot kinda thing, and believes when he decides on something it's only cause of all the random events so far, and at same time they guide his life in the future while living it. He wasn't crazy or anything, everything he stated, he was able to back up with evidence. And that conversation was 2 years ago.
If others wish to discuss these topics, i often ask them to talk in private or in limited group of people. Fanatics are eager to jump in anytime and spam the whole thing with their bullshit, not listening to anything and all they do is yell I AM RIGHT AND EVERYONE ELSE IS WRONG CAUSE I SAID SO. I FEEL SORRY FOR YOU CAUSE YOU WILL BURN IN HELL NON-BELIEVER. MY GOD IS THE BEST etc.
