lol something like that
btw ive been meaning to ask
would you clarify for me the differences in the metal subgenres?
i know of metalcore, deathcore, death metal, heavy metal, black metal but idk for the life of me what they all mean.
it's mostly a regional and a time/place kind of thing. whenever you read anything with -core on the end, assume it's the same as it's metal counterpart, except it incorporates 'breakdowns' which are usually just chugging away at your low end. they're supposed to be "brutal" but they're usually just retarded and boring.
metalcore is what most people think of when they hear the word "screamo"

deathcore is a heavier version of death metal, the only difference being the breakdown.
here's a video of some breakdowns, you'll find hundreds of these on youtube:

death metal is anything you hear with indiscernible growling vocals, more often than not the music itself is relatively wankish and features some technical parts.
example:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oBGixxuu2Eblack metal is one of my personal favorites, but also features the worst bands in the world, so you have to be careful what you listen to. in it's prime, it featured low-fidelity recordings, very typical satanic imagery and lyrics, and bands today sort of pick and choose what they like. typically distortion heavy, shrieking vocals, seldom is there any complexity to the drumming beyond pure speed, and tremolo guitar riffs. minor as fuck.

progressive metal thing. there's not much to say about it, other than it's often more intelligently composed than other metal music, and incorporates aspects of almost any genre. example? opeth.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbJCgDtjSDgwe'll follow that up with folk metal, which is pretty self-explanatory. it's got that northern-european folk aspect to it that we all know and love. two of my favorite bands are folk metal bands, however, i am of the opinion that they are the only two folk metal bands worth listening to. this is largely due to the contributions of henri sorvali, who writes and composes for both bands - finntroll & moonsorrow.
moonsorrow is a bit more intelligent, while finntroll is more fun, dancy music.
