Its no different to how you learn ps, or any other program. Just mess around with it and eventually you will pick it up.

Pen tool isnt exactly different from ps to illy, just how you apply colour and shit.

It does some getting used too, but yeah, you just pick it up eventually, i messed with it for like 12 hours and I caught on.

Just pick some thing really easy (clean and simple shapes) and start vectoring it just as a means to learning illy.
