Well, friend came over yesterday and played nurse and didn't let me play on the computer, so didn't do anything yesterday..

Anyhow, I never did  figure out how to do certain parts on Xandria's tutorial (http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/8596/tuttut.png), however, I just used c4ds that worked with my colour palette a bit better -

I really don't like c4ds.. or bright colours..  or anime, but I couldn't find any half decent renders that I liked.

Left side looks pretty horrible and lighting is less than stellar, but eh.

Hmm, those c4ds are quite a lot nicer than the ones I had.  Thank you.

Here it is with a bit more shoulder, I had to change some stuff as it looked pretty horrible after doing it.

Top one looks ultra low quality.
What part are you having issue with in Xan's tut?

I like the update to the other one. KIU.

Biggest things - Changing the colours of c4ds and I couldn't seem to use her method of using light textures at all.. just turned into a horrible.. horribleness.

Oh, and here's the one I did before the previous one.. followed her tutorial loosely.. didn't try using c4ds or her lighting technique, obviously. Started to feel meh, and I wanted to actually follow a tutorial, so I did the other one by completely following her tutorial. :/

I really don't like using c4ds or anime renders

Changing the colour of something is simple. Just add a hue/saturation layer on top of the thing you wish to change, and make it a clipping mask (right click on layer > create clipping mask).
Clipping masks only modify the layer directly below them.

Using light textures is mostly changing the layer mode to something in the 3rd category of layer modes (the one with lighten, screen, etc.) and lowering the opacity on it.

Well, between being sick, starting more language lessons and having to manage a new business, I've managed to stay rather busy and haven't had much time for making signatures..

Just threw this together.. didn't follow a tutorial. Feels boring as all hell and the right side is annoying me, but I'm going to go to sleep now. I will most likely end up making changes to it tomorrow.

Yeah it's pretty boring.
Monotone, no depth, lighting is very flat.

Tried to fix it a bit, but I had a bunch of dust blow into my eyes and now they hurt and it's rather painful to look at the screen.. Calling it quits for now, it's still annoying me, though a bit less.. Should've chosen different colours.. too close to her skin tone.

I'll try harder to avoid it. I think I need to change my stocks. One (The one I'm using as a signature right now) had her arms folded right below where she's cut off and holding a mirror, red'ish one (Last attempt before the horrible anime one) had her breasts exposed and didn't want 10%, and the current one.. well, it just looked awkward and I couldn't figure out how to make it work.

i made some color/brightness adjustments to add some perceived depth and frame your focal in contrast, this way, your composition is strengthened with just colors.

->

e: my edit is slightly over-contrasted, but i wanted to emphasize how contrast is important to building composition and perceived depth in an otherwise flat effect layer.
