there is a lot of low quality spots in the effects, fix those :)

To me it looks like there is very little depth and that he is just sitting on top of the background (which if you look closely can see where it is starting to be able to see the pixels and I think it would look better smooth)

The lighting seems a bit to strong to me as well. And like the person above said some of the effects are coming off lq. I also am confused at the border and text, but I am personally not a huge fan of them.

Just some of my opinions on it I could be wrong and I do like it overall even if it was just smoothed out a bit :P .

Much at least in smoothness and the lighting doesn't feel as aggressive, but I still feel it doesn't have any depth.

Well the colour theme is lovely.
Abit to smooth/blurred though
and kinda looks like spidey is just floating on top of the sig. some connection between him and the bg would be nice.

How do I make depth then?
I blur the bg, sharpen focal, blur parts of the render, use dodge/burn tool, etc

Depth comes from more places then just that, a lot of what you are saying can help in depth but a lot of that is just blending it all together

Ok let me try this.



I am assuming it is based in part off this tut : http://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=55475073&f=246 if not then it is a similar style and suites what I am going to try and say.

To me it looks like you did the parts that got the background but didn't do the parts that added the depth the part where he added the render after and changed it a bit on step 7 and 8.
