its a matter of technique. it's like u would say - why would a traditional graphic artist like Goya make an aquatint when he could draw the same thing with ink instead of making a crafty sculpted "stamp".
photorealistic painting mb achieves the effect of a photo - but to make such a painting u need massively better craftsmanship. and that's what it's all about.
i personally am in awe when i see such paintings
