Originally the prize pool was only 500fg.

Quote (nerobellum @ Feb 8 2012 12:17pm)

There will be a 500fg prize to motivate you to give it your best, split 50/50, to encourage effort from both parts.

I'll get some friends from another forum to help me judge the results, so there is no bias with regard to internet favoritism as far as votes go.

Post to enter.

What you could do is ask the users who donated extra fg to the prize pool if they'd be alright with x amount of fg (no more than 1240fg) being granted to Odin for his effort.
Then you could still hold the contest with a prize pool of at minimum what was originally planned.

As a reg and a student, I never cared about forum gold. I was interested in learning more about using photoshop, I got that and will continue this class effort because it promotes learning and participation, as well as helping others who want to learn rather then giving out an obligatory answer and a link to google.

Though I think the options should be keep going or quit, and should I receive fg now, I'll just donate it to the newest members that participated.
We need more learning, and less pettiness.

Hello my name is martin and I am on Magi's team, I think it is a sham to award the winnings to odin just because his thread is most active. Magi has spent hours of his time on skype with me helping someone with very little talent improve. I have shown other people my work from his classes and they as well have said I have had a vast improvement. I know while I can only speak for magi (as he is my mentor) that a lot of this contest was 1 on1 time and as such can't be judged on this forum alone.

Also I find it both disheartening and offense that you say odin's students have put in the most work. Since these classes have started I have put hours and hours into making sigs and have made quite a few with many changes, etc. I have also spent many more hours looking for resources, signing up and looking over other peoples work, whatever it may be.

So no I don't think any of what you have said nero is fair in the slightest and I feel it is a shame you are sabotaging your own contest.

If you think this is tl:dr then read this one line. I look forward to learning a lot from this section and subforum but at this time I can not give enough thanks to magi for the help he has put in with me in trying to help me improve and learn.

nero is disheartened that he got the least active group, makes him not want to continue. Not entirely surprising, but w/e

A better change of tourny could quite easily be having each set of students have a contest among themselves and have the teacher/mentor decide who 3-4 fair judges would be for each set of studies. Obv. having someone with little smudge experience judge sane's students competition would be unfair to the students, while have someone who refuses to use C4D's judge Odin's competition would be in poor taste.

There is not only a prize pool to be had at this point but respect and bragging rights. I think a separate tourny for each mentor would really be the best for the students, as they would be competing in the subject they have studied against people who have taken in the same amount of content. Only the students dedication will be the real deciding factor.

Though most of you don't know me, I do troll/lurk these threads a lot and generally only post when I have something meaningful to say. Even though Odin's is the most active there is still plenty of learning and dedication in the other threads. No need to try and discourage the students who actually tried. I'm sure every regular knows how incredibly amazing it is that this many 'newfags' actually LISTENED to advice, APPLIED the advice, and worked toward improvement. These mentor-student threads were in no way a waste to this sub-forum.

didn't read beyond this point, because i helped people privately one-on-one before my class, and will continue to do so after my class.
