It makes the update process a bit more tedious (updating will cause you to lose your Jailbreak, so you have to back everything up and have a method to re-Jailbreak) but most of the time Apple's updates are worthless imo.

i like the interface the way it is.

I use a program called rainmeter for the calendar. It's a program that allows you to put a large range of widgets/elements on your desktop. You can add stuff like rss feeds, weather reports etc but I just keep it simple and put a clock there

For the clock, I used the 'clock' module from the 'elemental' skin/theme. Here's a link:
