Anyone know how to 'float" an image in PS? Meaning if I have a separate image open for reference it will always float over the top of what I'm actually working on in it's window instead of having to minimize the window I'm painting on.

you mean like just reducing the opacity of something and putting it on top of another canvas..?

Hmm not really. I mean a completely different document. Like putting a color palette to paint with on one document then painting on a new document but the palette "floats" even when in tab mode so that it's always on top of the other document. Sounds more complicated then it is I just can't find it in PS :P I'll look for an example.

ha. What I'm talking about is kind of a lay out like this. For some reason when I sample from a reference or palette etc it goes to that document instead of staying on what I'm working on etc. mostly in tab mode.
