topaz can look ok when its used correctly its just that people abuse the pancakes out of it

it does look good when you don't overkill it..

too bad that there are only people who rape it anally - almost, i have seen maybe one or two nice works where it is used along with other effect.

I´m 99.9% sure that this isnt HDR ~~
looks like a simple awesomely lighted out portrait. great stuff.

@ mamllee can you link to the DA of the photographer?

Yeah Id like a link too, generally when people do hdr stuff theyll say its hdr.

Something about the darkness to it makes me feel like it could be.

didn't think that it is.. HDR is somewhat recognizable, dno what it is - unnatural lighting..

i meant more like the toy and towel that ruined the serious-sad feeling of it.. but maybe it was meant to be that way, great shot anyway, the face is adorable

the toy plain actually is an hella important tool to underline the meaning and the story behind that photograph. It obviously is supposed to represent a child that grows up in a society of war and violence. At least that´s what I read out of that photo......
So without the plain it´d just be a random sad childrens´ portrait.

you mean a Canon speedlite? Ye that´s cool. I´d suggest you get the 430 EX II for around 250 bucks. I´ll get it aswell right after I saved up enough money again. I´m currently preparing to buy the Tokina 11-16mm 2:8 lens anytime soon.

you might be right but that towel should be something else then.. idk why but it feel like it doesn't suit.. didn't see the toy at first sight but when i didn't think it had a real purpose there..
