quite true, at the time i didn't think i'd ever want/need to develop my skills with it, and it was quite hard starting out.  i've actually been using one in the computer lab at college and getting the hang of it though, i'll post my work once im finished ;)

regardless, the demand isn't high at all, so i still don't see how i'm wrong.
i also have plenty of ideas about reality, probably more than is healthy to have even.

At the time of taking the free tablet that you canvased for and gladly accepted. dat u dolan?

Then why the fuck did you take it and not leave it for somebody else? I now wish you didn't even reply to me.

You are wrong about having opinion that people should only do what pays the bills. If you can't see past money and other profits that your actions may benefit, you are sad person. Most things done from love and dedication for it are actually worth more than shits made for money.

I like this thread if some people comments don't count. Pixel art is amazing and you should definitely keep going, learn and in the end - make the masterpieces like you have posted as your inspiration.

I am not much of a help in topic though since i haven't really been in contact with subject.

Thanks. :)

I'll take anyones advice even if they aren't into pixel art on things like shading etc, so feel free! I have no education in arts or anything, I've just enjoyed sketching at night and in my free time for quite a few years and thought i'd try something new, and i'm really enjoying pixel art, and putting quite a bit of time into learning it. :)

Going to use this thread to post progress on trying to improve my shading/dithering

when did i say that people should only do what pays the bills? i'm just suggesting that he develops skills he would like to have in the future, and not waste time doing something that will lead to nothing. if he enjoys doing it, then he obviously won't consider my advice to move on to other things, but it was just a suggestion. why do you guys still judge people for having conflicting ideas?

From where did you read that he was wasting time on developing skills that he don't want to have in future? Rather that assuming that you know person better than he does himself, you could give him reasonable help if you have any or encourage people do something that is worth a while. Seeing as what you think of Pixel Art, i don't feel like you know yourself what is worth awhile and what not.

Putting that a side, i don't know who judges you or who doesn't but if you're giving bad advice then it is a problem.

Because you are telling someone something they obviously enjoy is useless and they should move on.

Are you really that dense?

did you guys even read his post? the last thing he mentioned was how frustrating it was...
in what way did i give bad advice? i just advised him to make sure he really wants to develop this particular skill.
if you want you can let these be rhetorical questions and move on, i'm really not into jsp drama.

Yet all you do is try and cause it.

Just because he said something was frustrating doesn't mean anything. You didn't advise him of anything you just said

i suggest using gimp or photoshop, no one wants to look at pixelated images anymore.
to be fair though, you did a good job on the top of the box, and the pattern on the rectangle looks cool.

Which is a pretty stupid statement and this thread proves that.

not entirely.  what is the application of pixel art?  the demand is quite low as far as i know.

Some stellar advice there, because the demand is low he shouldn't do it.

Should I continue?
