Kinda looks off to me. Like the shadow should be behind it more.

everything you learn doing this will have to be undone when you get a tablet. also, do still life. unclemuscles will vouch.

it's like the same as a tattoo artist - if you scratch for 3 years and then start an apprenticeship with a veteran artist, he's going to tell you to do things a certain way, but you won't be able to since you formed so many bad habits. for now, it's best that you start with a pencil and paper and then work from there. i've learned more about lighting and texture lately than i ever did with my tablet, and it's going to be that much easier once i get it back. also, do still life.

still life, as in, an object that you can clearly relate to a shape.

draw a rectangle in perspective, and then draw your cellphone INSIDE the box, for example.

helps.

also, still life.

we all have bad drawing habits implanted in us growing up....

example: when drawing hair just a bunch of lines, its a habit because we want to draw something that symbolizes it instead of actually drawing what we see..

so when we draw a bunch of random straight lines for hair, we might as well write HAIR on top of our portraits.

theres a bunch of these that we just naturally do...... but you have to really study and practice to break em

Yeah, I do draw a lot with pencil and paper. This just seemed like a fun idea. My lighting is definitely horrible though, my proportion is usually off too. Going to do my coffee mug next. :)

Started doing a coffee mug, but got bored and finished the eye ( I hate leaving stuff unfinished ). I'm sure flaming will follow. I want to fix the tones in the retna a little more eventually. Probably come back to it when I get advanced enough to start trying faces.

I feel it's a massive improvement over what I had done on page 1.
