What kind of masking, clipping or layer masking and just erasing parts or what?

I tend to use a c4d lighting sometimes with clip masking so i can smudge off parts in a seperate layer cause layermasking has alot of constrants concerning location

do people usually use name@D2JSP or just name@JSP ?
