that hole in the left side takes control of the whole signature

its also no definition made by your sharpening whats there to look for if everything is sharpened at the same degree? its the reason its getting flat.

It isn't finished, will probably work a bit more on this but Idk if I like where it's going
hmmm..

What's right with this one is pretty much what you did wrong with the most recent.

Lighting: 2 colours that compliment each other nicely. Lighting is even and has good depth/accent.
Flow: Follows the hands (also light sources) rather than the torso.

Most recent lacks the soft lighting, instead it's got 2 strong light sources that seem to not affect any other part of the signature.
Also no flow, and a lack of depth.

I thought the lighting looked weird here because it doesn't really glow?
Idk how to explain, looks more like softbrushing than lighting to me :/
And I appreciate the comment, now back to work :P

Yes, it does look like self brushing and there's certainly improvements that can be made. But the other one, the lighting doesn't even refract off anything else in the signature, just 2 strong light sources that affect nothing around them.

You need to do it as you build the layers up. It looks like the lower left light source is pretty far back but it still falls over on to the c4d's that are closer to the foreground.

I've never really been good at lighting though, I don't think so at least, since I've never followed any tuts or psds for it, generally it's just slapped on which ruins it

I sometimes use Filter > Render > Lighting Effects to get a good idea of where the lighting is coming from. It can also provide a good lighting effect if you've got 1 main source of light.

I used that o.o, and set to softlight and lowered the opacity, it brightens the source but darkens everything else
just gotta get better at it I guess :P thanks again
