I have shocked myself but not while running wires.  I was using a circular saw and skimmed over the cord just enough to take the protective layer off.  Shit sucked a trash bag full of dicks. I just hate running wires,  always hated it and I am not really sure why.

Also, it turns out that there is a local wood workers association, just 40 min from me.

I got a call from a guy I had emailed about some hand planes he had on craigs list.  we talked for about an hour, and I'm going to start going to the monthly meeting.

Cant beat free info and guidance.
