Imo, that's way too time consuming.
I've never used IRC, but I assume it's a live chat kind of deal, like AIM or MSN.
With topics and threads, posts are usually a sum up of what someone wants to say, so you'll get like, five pages in your four hour absence, whereas IRC, you'd get this huge conversation from any number of people that's completely out of order and just simply long.
I admit, sometimes spam can be overdone, but I think here would be better than there. It's a lot more convienient. You can read a few posts and still know what's going on.

For those of you who were interested in my vector, sorry I haven't been working on it recently, I haven't given up on it but just haven't had a whole lot of time lately. I pop into jsp for a bit each day post a couple times but don't really have any time for graphics.
I'll finish it soon, hopefully.
I'm also amused at how people are stereotyping Design Inc. members and blaming all of us for this thread getting closed again (not sure why it's open now tbh).
