Anyone familiar with ascii art? Not those gay line drawings and "image to ascii" converters, but real ascii art such as: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocgbtUR28UA

I was wondering if there was techniques or ways to practice to improve other than just playing around with the software (pablodraw). Is there certain things I should look for in a reference drawing, or ways to change a reference to make it easier to translate into ascii drawings (think I read something about adjusting the contrast).

Any tips or tricks would be nice, or even just general knowledge on how to go about practicing, maybe should I start with simple objects first?

a mosaic looks a lot different close up. Try stepping back from the PC often to view it from a little distance. Helps a lot to clean things up and concept other shapes.
