Kay guys, does this look natural to you? This is my first time doing this with a photo and I'm basically winging it. I think the deathclaw probably isn't sized proportionately, but in this photo at least I don't think I could have gone any bigger on him.

Since there's no shadow on the ground, it looks like it's floating in the air.
The shadows/lightning on the creature itself are incorrect as well.

So maybe burn the ground in front of where he's at a bit? Not much I can do about shadows and lighting on the deathclaw itself, the render was already lit in certain spots.

It's not really the photography aspect that I'm asking about though. Forget the photo, help me figure out how to blend, burn, dodge, whatever.

Try burning on a separate layer then healing

Like duplicate the layer and then burn? I've never used the heal tool tbh, I don't understand it lol. I live on clone stamping.

heal is the most used tool for photo editing imo

http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/retouching-repairing-images.html

after you burn it just heal around it to make it not look unnatural

just play with it

1. define light source
2. paint on shadows, highlights
3. create interaction with stock canvas (shadows, etc.)

dont overdo it

e: the drop shadow layer option actually isnt terrible if you use it right
