thats because you placed the highlight in the middle of the ball, enclosing it in the midtone/shadow. Notice in your earlier ones that your highlight trails off the sphere, which flattens it out


where you got it wrong is with the shadow on the ground plane. Put a ball on a table and notice that the shadow is cast onto one side of the sphere, not all around it. The shadow is also shaped like an elipse that fades as it gets further from the sphere.

this stuff is basic, if you dont have the observational skills to do this, im not sure what to tell you

Not the best but its a different shape.

/e found out what made my spheres so hard on paper. i did the same exact thing as i did digi painting. i made the highlight run off which didnt give it that 3d look.
