Yeah maynard is a hell of a lyricist too bad he couldn't make a perfect circle work....Kind of went downhill

nonetheless, there is so much deep meaning behind there songs its like wow.
take stinkfist for example, first 10 times i heard the song i thought it was about anal fisting

now i realize its about desensitization and 'going downhill' as you speak of

The cryptic way he writes is incredible. But being from the outside and an attempting to decode those lyrics might be a little more difficult than most would imagine. He certainly has a style of his own. Almost like a poetic rant

ya i guess you have to somewhat be in the same state of mind to understand it, which i think is why a lot of people who smoke weed listen to tool. because you dont really appreciate their music untill you understand his metaphors and twisting lyrics.
