I could say the same about shortsighted assumptions.

yup, no tracing no color picking.

i know lot of artist personally which works like this, and their tracing work is great but when it comes to paint anything without photo reference they can't produce nothing near that quality. thats why its not impressing me much, becouse its not hard (in my opinion ofc)
no hate really,i'm just tryin to help push this guy on the proper track

peace

I can't take too much credit. I'm drawing from reference and using grid lines.

eh.
look at the folds on clothes or even exact number and exact spacing on buttons on the console behind. Even if you grid your work you dont bother with details that doesnt really make a diffrence so the background parts or the organic parts like fold etc or even the shape of the hair or stuff thats holding the monitor are EXACT.
if you'd bother to check the colours u would see they are colorpicked aswell.

peace

Osguilath does make a decent point that copying with grid lines to this level of precision is massive crutch that will only take you skills so far.

But, there are subtle differences in the shapes that lead me to believe he zooms in and copys with grid lines, possibly never actually overlaying the image ontop of his painting. I actually did an overlay test on his matrix painting when I first opened this thread and found waaay more inconsistencies inbetween the two images. I also did a color pick test using your comparison image and all the colors have completely different HSB. Of course he could have color picked it and then later on messed with the channels but seeing as how he admitted to using gridlines without anyone even asking, theres really no reason to think he would be dishonest.

Ultimately, as I said before, the thing thats so impressive about these is not the drawing aspect of it but the rendering and colors. Try tracing the linework of one of these images and then attempt to paint it out with photoshop brushes and your color window. It's not farking easy to make it so believable, and it takes tons and tons of patience/time.

So maybe the "point" of him doing these is just to have fun, I'm sure he has sketchbook stuff from imagination/life that he's just not showing us (though we would all love to see it)
