how does learning to draw come into play with graphic design..? o.O

im saving for a tablet anyways,

i can't draw on paper with pencils to save my life, but via photoshop i can do it easily.

Nobody who draws well would claim that they draw "easily".

Learn to draw with pencils, it forces you to think about your shapes and make deliberate decisions. Selecting a font in photoshop, laying it on a grid, and coloring it in red isn't a skill.

Find your artistic idols and research their backgrounds, you will find that all of them draw... a lot.

I can't draw with pencil to save my life, the texture just doesn't feel right, doesn't feel right in my hand, i prefer it being on my screen and i can look at my other screen to see what im drawing.

just something mentally that makes me unable to draw with pencil and paper.

Sure, theres tons out there, do you have an example of stuff you might like to draw?

If you're just starting out with a pencil, try to understand construction. Check out radhowto . blogspot . com (go back to the posts from 2010)

That idea of breaking everything down to a hierarchy, from simple to complex, is what solid drawing is all about. All the fancy shading and colors is just icing on the cake, it means nothing without a solid foundation drawing underneath.

Look up Michael Hampton Anatomy to see the same concepts applied to complicated anatomy.

Hope this helps.

Sure, well you should give it a try man. See if you can do a line drawing (no shading, no tight details) and then take a picture with your phone and post it up. You only learn by trying.

If your having trouble I can do an over paint and show you how to break down the forms to understand them better.
