lol if you want to get ripped off and only be able to run certain programs, sure, get a mac

but if you want something that can do a whole lot more, get windows

that $14,000 laptop quoted is the same price as about 5 rack servers with i7, 6gb RAM, and 120gb sshd

Yeah. And there are Quadro cards that cost 5 times the price of that 14K laptop. So, don't buy nVidia because you will get ripped off. Get R9 280 and you are good to go.

It seems to me that you are implying there are no expensive PCs which is plain stupid.

i am implying that what you pay for your mac, you can get a windows PC of the same quality for far less

and that the same design software is available on PC that you can get on Mac, but you cannot get everything that is available for a PC on a Mac

holy clueless. plzgo.

All design agencies here in the twin cities are mac based.

That being said, we don't even use new mac pros... just upgraded mac towers. And they're still outperforming .

And there is software that is exclusive to mac (we are talking about design field).

Is mac overpriced? Yes. Is it pointless buy for anyone in the world? No.

It is not the hardware that makes Mac worth any amount of money (because it is same as it is in every other PC). Software makes it good for what we are talking about here.

All throughout college I learned the adobe suite on a mac, plus my first job of 3.5 years was on a mac. I've since worked for a company for about 3 years now and they use PC. I much prefer using the adobe suite on the mac for multiple reasons. First, OSX is infinitely more intuitive to use, especially the adobe suite. The organization tools on a mac are amazing..everything works fluidly. I also much prefer the keyboard configurations on a mac. Hotkeys, especially the 3-4 button hotkeys, are much easier to select due to the command/apple/option placements compared to ctrl/shift on the standard PC keyboards.

Usually the ignorant people expressing opinions on the matter don't have experience with both operating systems.. these are usually the people who still don't know you can use a two button mouse with a mac.

Regarding the price.. you get what you pay for. My 17" macbook pro lasted about 6 years. It would've lasted longer, but I have to admit I didn't take proper care of it in regards to overheating.

Lastly, regarding video editing, I've done all my video editing in sony vegas on PC, so I can't comment on the programs/performance there.

I've used after effects, but haven't taken the time to learn it very well. I've only use it for motion tracking and lens flares. Considering I don't do anything too crazy with editing, vegas suits my needs.

I would buy a pc over mac any day. Even if I were to only use the computer for graphic design.
Reali hate mac's cuz in school we had em, looked like this:

Disgusting design. And the mouse had only one button <- Them over at Apple sure are good at softwares and stuff, but when it comes to common sense, they are retarded.
