3. The tutorial just said to "add a blue lightsource" without explaining how, so I tried to use the lightsource technique from this tutorial -  http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs27/f/2008/170/6/b/Lighting_Tutorial_by_Xpnze.jpg
Though I completely agree.  Are there any other tutorials on light sources or should I just practice more with that one?

They use a larger brush in that lighting tutorial. The center of it is also off the sig, so most of the light is just the edge of the soft brush.
You could probably get away with using Filter > Render > Lighting effects for this tag considering the light is only coming from one direction.

Here are two quick attempts at fixing a few mistakes -

Hmm, the first one as in the very first one, or the first of those two?

Also, a question if anyone has time to explain - On Xandria's tutorial she adds a c4d that is black and then turns it red by adding a fill layer with a matching colour and setting it to 100% opacity and then erasing what you don't want coloured.. And of course, having no clue what I'm doing in Photoshop I have no idea what that means.. can anybody explain?

Thanks (And sorry for spamming so many questions).

The 1st one of those. Without the massive light source.

Don't know which tut you're talking about but I'm guessing it is.

Create a layer and fill it with colour. Set it as a clipping mask on top of the C4D. Add a layer mask to the colour layer and brush (ON THE LAYER MASK) to erase the colour.

/e: Also, questions are good.

it looks like a gray smudgey mess. try to visualize how you want it to look and work towards that, going in blindly won't usually get you very far.
i kinda like the texture but the form doesn't fit the rest of the content at all

Hmm, no clue why I didn't link it. It's the one from your list -

Didn't manage to figure it out, so I tried to do another tutorial -

Well, I have no clue on how the end result came out so drastically different than the tutorial.. I decided to just finish it and post it, though I'm going to try and redo the tutorial later as I feel like I screwed it up far too much.

Yeah, I agree. That was my first time using many (If not all) of those features/tools - currently, I'm going in almost completely blind due to lack of experience. Though I did try to visualize a bit more on the one I just did.

a little too dark and unsaturated in my opinion, but it could also be due to my monitor
i like the style of effects but the fx on her shoulder are almost unnoticeable and seem to have no design or elegance to their arrangement (they also go against the flow of the rest of the sig)
try thinking about every element as it fits in with every other part, a viewer sees it all so you need to be conscious of everything you present their eye.

Hmm, I've been sick for the last three or four days and I'm tired to the point of falling asleep half way through the tutorial.. tried to redo the last tutorial without using the clipping masks, though I still managed to butcher it -
http://sh-archaeologist.deviantart.com/art/Music-Man-Signature-Tutorial-70326440

Well, off to falling asleep, will attempt to actually follow tutorials tomorrow. :wallbash:

Oh, and a question if somebody doesn't mind answering - Are there any websites that have good renders (Non-anime ones, preferably)? I can't seem to find any..

Here it is without the clipping mask on the shoulder.

Also, thanks for the CnC, I appreciate it.

I actually kinda like them. They'd be a lot nicer if the colours weren't so washed out.
