maybe try thinking big and then zooming in like: do i want to make a puzzle game? should it involve moving around in a world, math, written puzzles.. should it be something highly replayable or a once or twice run thing.. if its movement based who will the player be.. should it be something they can enjoy playing for a few minutes or longer puzzles that make the player think about it for awhile at one sitting..
not necessarily "Oh I want a zelda like game with mass effect like story and minesweeper like playstyle and etc.."
OR
you could do research on what people are most interested in when they look for game apps and do something in that genre for that audience but make it your own thing
Gere and such is important I agree, but I like to fly with ideas rather than narrowing myself to a genre at the beginning, seems like a crazy way to work? then i'm crazy. Kinda like Johnny Ive says, if you're designing a lunchbox, dont get caught up in the word box, because you have a predisposition around the object.
Hrmm, good thoughts man tho, will definitely take them into consideration in my musings.

Diablo 2 but better, I believe in you.
XD tried that one a long time ago, enough to realise it's not a 1-2 man job.

android/ios needs a good mmorpg. something where you can farm items, do quests, learn skills (or get them from mobs.) a trading system. dungeons? parties.
basically android has no good pixel or decent graphics mmorpgs and im bored.
MMO is hard, because bam, you have a server, which means bam, maintainable infrastructure.
If it's a good game, and it's making money, it's possible to maintain servers with little lag. And then there is making the damn thing, I don't think toonbit is quite ready for an undertaking of MMO sizing, but it might be something I do in future.
