i honestly think you tried too hard. try letting your brush style free up to add character and dimension, these seem like a pile of painstakingly made / predictable gradients. also, rather than simply using black to define shades try using different hues of colors, and combine cool with warm to add more subtle and realistic effects.

well yah i tried verry hard

could you atleas tell me this

take out the background take out the girl dose the dragon atleast look good?

i spent most of my time on that

i think he could use a stronger (lower) jaw but otherwise very well done scales, though i think they should vary in size to add dimension. as it is he looks quite cartoonish, though i think that's what you were going for, adding a rough texture would look awesome.

do you have a tablet or a mouse?

your sketch is done with the pen tool....?

i sketch it out first with my bamboo than to clean the lines i use a pen tool

its the only way i new how to make the lines cleaner

and the lines are apart of the artwork if you look at it from an anime point of view

try fast / sweeping strokes, just ctrl/z until you're happy with them. once you gain more hand/eye coordination and brush confidence it should become second nature.
