Just because it's not as popular doesn't mean that people shouln't spend their time doing what they love doing.
Whether they're doing it as a hobby or get paid for it.
It's alright if you think pixel art is a waste of time, but don't force your opinion on others or talk down to them. Who are you to judge them?

Is this a bad way of doing things? What else should I be doing? Increasing/ Decreasing the hue as well? Although its hard for me to adjust it effectively.
The problem in simply decreasing/increasing the brightness is that it'll look monotone and you'll need more colors to get a colorful image.
Which might cause problems because pixel art is, as you know, also known by using a small color palette. (The image of the castle for example only consists of an entire 36 colors.)
