switch back to the darker grey, but use that mid tone grey for the outer border instead of the very light grey you are currently using

Protip: never use a base grey, always tint it with a color

Also, try base the design off a grid there should be some pds here that will help you http://960.gs/
and read some articles like this one http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2007/04/14/designing-with-grid-based-approach/

there are a million things i could say, but start out with good layout, think about spacing and the rest will be easy.

depends on the rest of the scheme… but i like a nice gunmetal blue grey

Am i the only one who gets bothered by the curved edges (lighter gray) in base and pointy edges (blue head thigy) of the upper part of the design?

I know, i know; me fail English.
