Not really, tbh I love comic books. It's the reason I started drawing myself. First drawing guide I bought was How to draw comic books the marvel way (great book, would recommend as a supplement if you're into drawing comics). More as in, a mindset that says, I'm going to ditch the bright red with dark red as and dark red for shadows, and think what the colours would actually be. Grab references. There's tons that could help, red skull jumps to mind.

There's no point in handing out advice when you haven't the skill set to back points. No one here is telling him to go off and paint fruit for a year, but understanding the basics for a month cannot be undervalued. It teaches you nearly everything, from how colors react next to each other, lighting, composition, technique.
