No.

Yeah I would agree with Karkov on this one, art is subjective hard to always agree on things.

Art may be subjective, but only when its good art.

There is bad art and there is good art. There are rules both to follow and to break, but the bottom line is if you follow the rules you make better art, and more so when you learn and follow the rules and then break one or two you make really good art.

No I disagree with this, something make art better to someone who is a critique not the masses. There may be basic rules to follow when learning but at the end of the day can do whatever you want. Just because someone tells me I can't do something doesn't mean I can't. It all depends who you make your art for.

I think there are cases where people don't ever follow 'the rules' and still do quite well.

This is true, I think though that the rules are required regardless. If you break them all and your art is good, it is because you have broken all the rules but did not disregard them.

Disregarding the rules is not knowing what you are doing.

I agree with this to an extent. Someone like Daniel Johnston never really knew the rules but his art has always sold, there is cases where this is not the only factor.

But for something like sigs I agree I do, I just hate the idea of art having rules opposed to guidelines. Somethings 95% of the time look better but there is always exceptions in art.

Meant GDGC (obv), and at this early point I feel it's good advice.

I've seen too many people quit right off the bat because they thought something was really good, even though it violated a lot of the basic artistic concepts, and everyone here told them it wasn't or "tuts" etc.
